Coelenterazine is a substrate for bioluminescent enzymes of marine origin like Renilla and Gaussia but also for Aequorin and Obelin.

Commercially available products have been found to contain less than 85% of active substance.

Both Coelenterazine and deoxy coelenterazine (benzyl-coelenterazine) supplied by RESEM are produced using novel methods providing direct extremely pure and active luminophores without extended chromatographic purification procedures.

Aqueous solution of coelenterazine should be freshly prepared, allowed to stabilize 15 minutes at room temperature and used within the same working day. Alcoholic solution can be kept 3 weeks in a refrigerator. The product itself as yellowish crystals should be stored dry at dark under nitrogen or argon at
-80ºC. Shelf-life is 2 years after manufacture for unopened vials.
